Holzkurier SHB Special: MHM in serial timber construction

An excellent example of how the use of Massiv-Holz-Mauer® (MHM) can be perfected: Combining a high degree of prefabrication with glue-free solid wood construction is the business model of the Bavarian company R3 Massivholzbau.

    Desire for Prefabrication

Especially in residential construction, but also in the commercial and public sectors, serial construction methods enable efficient, resource-saving and predictable construction. Many customers are increasingly expressing a desire for higher levels of prefabrication; an innovative approach in this context is the use of glue-free solid wood wall components as a starting point. Serial construction is thus gaining ground not only in timber frame construction, but also in solid wood house construction. At r3 Massivholzbau GmbH, the Massiv-Holz-Mauer® (MHM) is completed to create a system wall.

Prefabrication level can be individually and ecologically configured

The individual wall components (maximum 6 m in length due to production) are connected to form elements up to 13 m long. The degree of prefabrication can then be individually configured: It is possible to install ready-to-install window and door modules in the provided recesses. In addition to various window variants, these assemblies also include window sills, roller shutters, shading, and fall protection. This is followed by the installation of wood fiber insulation. R3 Massivholzbau has recently also offered the option of producing plastered wall elements. R3 Massivholzbau relies on clay for the plaster, consistently pursuing its approach of working with natural building materials. Reed mats are used as the plaster base.

Certified and tested basic product - the MHM

The solid wood wall system (MHM) was developed by Hans Hundegger in the late 1990s and immediately provides a pleasant indoor climate thanks to its natural humidity and heat regulation. Furthermore, the MHM is certified with the REI 90 fire protection classification and has been acoustically tested. The wall structure also offers burglar protection according to resistance class RC30.
